Frankfurt review

Just got back from the Frankfurt Show with the guys from Gruenrekorder and it rocked!
Quote of the night from one of the organisers who listened to part of our set (in a huge old sandpaper factory) from outside the room and said he was watching "how the dust fell from the glass in the roof" - the small speakers managed to play the place quite well.
Looking forward to Weezie in Leipzig and 7Stock in Dresden this weekend. New shows in Berlin and London just announced too.

Now that its been just over four months in this palatial bastian of broadmindedness and community spirit I feel like I'm almost a part of the furniture. Y'know, like my house - minimal, spartan - a sit on the floor member of the locale. I've met a few people and soon I might even have more than a phone number (so I can think about talking to other people even when they aren't standing in front of me, like in Woolies or outside the Post Office). And if my persistence pays off in a few more months I might be a coveted member of the Town Social Scene....but the Wet season is coming....and I am going away (like everyone else) for a few weeks....I hope I'm not back to square one when I get back...

Meanwhile, walking in the Deep North offers new and emerging noise fans a head full-o-sound as cicadas burl up for this year's pre-Wet season volume awards. After the sterling early efforts by crickets (and as always utes and dogs) the cicadas are surging forward with their range of piercing songs from *rrreeeagh* to *eeeeeeee*. The best contestants are yet to come as the rains increase and the heat creeps higher.

Back to the Shed
Where 37 degrees is more than just a measurement of separation of wits as the heat rises in the living space within the great metal monster. And news through today, its the end of an error - wonderful and green in these parts in the Wet but the test on the build-up to get there makes for some uncomfortable nights. As they say its' not the heat its the stupidity.
After all the recent floods and cyclones on the other continental bastion of stupidity, its reassuring to think that I chose to live in a town built on top of a river which can reach 17 metres deep before you need to panic that it will break its banks. So, as its time to move house, I think I'll move next to it. To check if I need to start swimming yet see:

Last day in Perth of the Tura Totally Huge New Music Festival (yes, for real). Been a hectic week between the seaside (Fremantle) and the city (Perth). Seen plenty, met plenty and slept a little. Main event was a Ruined Piano Convergence which saw (among many things) one ebony and ivory number burnt, another left on a beach, one suspended and one slept in. Sounds on offer from the concerts varied from bent leather, wired person, surround sound, surface noise, keening theremins, tractor-hub-bells and pianos in various states of unrecognisablity (including mine, I had no idea that this piano emphasis would be like it was when I applied to come down to present at the conference a few months ago). Half the temperature down here of back home up north and god knows how many more times people (but in true style the Ambassadors of Manners swept in and once again this year the streets were awash with the sounds of Seamen).
Back in the palatial capital of the north tomorrow and back to the high 30s in the shed the day after to make a sound walk for the lucky people of Fremantle to wander around to...but it probably won't be what they expect...they might even find a croc on the beach where the piano was...
